Passenger rights in Southern Greenland, Mid-Greenland and Disko Bay
30.12.2016
From the 1 January 2017, Disko Line takes over the service contract tasks in Southern Greenland, Mid-Greenland and Disko Bay. It also means that new rules will apply for delays and cancellations. As something new, there is a difference between whether you are resident in Greenland or not.
In a number of cases for delays and cancellations, Disko Line covers the cost of accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner and transportation between the airport, heliport/departure quay and hotel/accommodation — called subsistence expenses.
Subsistence expenses are covered for you if you have come aboard a boat or checked in or have come aboard a helicopter, and until you reach your destination within Disko Line’s service contract routes.
As something new, if the delay or cancellation occurs before the start of the journey, the following expenses are covered upon presentation of a certificate of residence:
• If you have arrived in Nanortalik, Narsaq, Qaqortoq, Narsarsuaq, Ilulissat, Qasigiannguit, Aasiaat or Qerqertarsuaq and Disko Line’s service contract departure from here is delayed or cancelled: Your ticket with Disko Line can be re-booked free of charge for the next departure with available seats.
• If Disko Line’s service contract transport is delayed and it causes you to miss your onward connection by aircraft in Aasiaat, Ilulissat, Narsarsuaq, Nuuk, Sisimiut and Maniitsoq, subsistence is covered until you are able to take the next departure with available seats with the same airline.
• If your ticket for the onward connection by aircraft is forfeited or cannot be changed free of charge for the next departure, the Government of Greenland will cover the cost of re-booking or purchasing a new ticket to your destination in Greenland or to your first destination in Iceland or Denmark. In such cases you must ask Disko Line for a voucher. You should then present the voucher and your forfeited ticket to Mittarfeqarfiit’s staff at the airport, who will help to re-book the ticket or purchase a new one for the next departure with available seats with the same airline.
• In the event of delays with other air traffic to Aasiaat, Ilulissat, Narsarsuaq, Nuuk, Sisimiut and Maniitsoq, which means that you miss your onward connection in Disko Line’s service contract route network: In this case your ticket with Disko Line can be re-booked free of charge for the next departure with available seats.
Therefore, always remember to take your certificate of residence with you on your trip!
If you have permanent residence in Greenland, you can download a certificate of residence for free at www.sullissivik.gl. You can also get your certificate of residence from your municipality of residence by contacting the citizen service centre or at the settlement office, but there is usually a processing fee to pay.
