Any transport of live animals must always be booked in advance. Upon a request for transportation of live animals, the passenger should be informed about the regulations governing import/export of live animals to/from and in Greenland.
Documents and certificates permitting transportation of live animals should always be brought along, as these must be shown before the transport is accepted.
Live animal + transport crates are charged as excess baggage. The weight of the transport crate including the animal can not be included in the passengers free baggage allowance.
Allergies to pets
If a passenger is allergic to animals, information regarding the allergy and request should be sent to Air Greenland.

Air Greenland will confirm the request if no pets have been confirmed on the flight. The request will be denied if a pet is already confirmed
AVIH Animal in hold
The following regulations apply to live animals carried in hold:
- The animal must be transported in an approved strong, watertight box/container.
The transport container must be large enough to permit the animal to stand naturally, turn around and lie down. The bottom of the transport container must be covered with a layer of moisture absorbent materiel such as wood shavings or sawdust. Use of hay or straw for this purpose is not permitted. The Animal must also have access to water from portable water containers.
- We recommend that the animal is medically sedated before the journey.

PETC Pet in cabin
Air Greenland will carry live animal in the cabin under the following conditions:
- Dogs, cats, rabbits, aquarium fish and cage birds are accepted. However birds, cannot be carried on business class. Other species of animal may be carried as AVIH.
- The animal must be kept in an approved strong, watertight box/container.
- The animal must not produce any noticeable odor that could be a nuisance to other passengers.
- The animal must not weigh more that 8 kg including the box/container.
- The animal must not cause any inconvenience for other passengers and may not, for example, be placed next to a passenger suffering from allergy. If a passenger with allergy has made a reservation prior to a request for a PETC, the request for a PETC will be denied.
- We recommend that the animal is medically sedated before the journey.

Transport of live animals to and from Greenland
The passenger needs different permits and certificates to import/export animals to/from Greenland.

Transport of live animals within Greenland
Dogs: The owner must obtain permission from the new municipality to import the dog. However, sled dogs may be moved without permission between towns in the dog sled districts in North and East Greenland and in West Greenland north of Maniitsoq.
The public health commission may, however, issue an import/movement ban both in dog sled districts and in southern Greenland if it considers there is a serious risk of spreading disease.
There is a general ban on importing sled dogs to South Greenland and other dog races must not be imported to sled dog districts without a special permit. Such permits are only give to police dogs.
Other animals:
Further information regarding import to another municipality can be obtained from the municipality that the animal will be moved to.
Embargo
There can be embargo for AVIH on some flights due to short connection to the next flight. There needs to be at least 45 min. connection time for next departure in order to have AVIH confirmed.
Service animals
Service animals are trained animals who help a handicapped person. Air Greenland allows transport of service animals as PETC at no extra charge, but these must be registered in the pnr prior to departure.
