Air Greenland’s routing can be split in 2 parts: A Commercial area and a Service contract area.
Commercial area
The Commercial area is were there is free competition with other airlines.
The flights are operated on commercial reasons and the prices can therefore vary depending on supply and demand.
Service contract area
The Service contract area is where there is an agreement with the government regarding air service of the routes, due to the fact that the routes can not run commercially and must be subsidized.
The service contract areas can also be split in 2 categories:
Settlement flights and district/shuttle flights.
The prices and timetables are fixed on settlement flights, while district/shuttle flights which can be set up or cancelled due demand.
There are special rules for passengers flying out of the service contract areas in regards to irregularities. Read more under “Schedule change and irregularities”
